A new show about the Tramways riots of 1920 – a forgotten and scandalous chapter of Bristol history.
April 1920; the flags had long ceased waving; widows struggled to keep families fed, the soldiers were home and out of work, and bitterly eyeing the women who were still working. Tensions were high, tempers were short. The War was over, but for working women, the fight was about to begin.
Clippies is a companion piece to acta’s successful Gas Girls show, and the company has worked with an intergenerational group of experienced community performers and children to devise and perform the play, to commemorate the Tramways Riots of April 1920.
Preview performances in November will be followed with a longer run in May 2020.
