Forge

The word Forge appears over a fire

Forge
verb [ /fɔː(r)dʒ/ ]

To create (something) strong, enduring, and successful.

Are you a young woman interested in a career in theatre, but not sure where to begin? Forge is for you! Forge is a two-year theatre training programme led by women, for women. Over two years, we will introduce you to a range of theatre skills, and then you’ll specialise in either production or theatre-making and you’ll complete an accredited Arts Award Qualification along the way.

What will I gain?
– Increased confidence
– Clearer goals
– New skills
– Increased employability
– Greater understanding of the theatre sector
– New connections and networks

Who is this for?
People aged 15-25 who identify as a woman or as a girl and face barriers to being involved in theatre. This programme is free to attend, requires no previous experience, (although passion and enthusiasm is essential!) and will be only one evening a week, so we hope you can fit it in around your busy life.

What will it include?
We’ll host weekly workshops on Tuesdays 5.30-7.00pm (during term time) at our theatre in Bedminster (we can help with travel costs if needed). The workshops will include acting, movement, puppetry, directing, script writing, set design, lighting and sound design, stage management, costume design – they’ll cover all sorts!

There will also be mentoring sessions with a theatre professional, outings to the theatre, and some written work necessary for the Silver Arts Awards.

What will happen at the end?
At the end of each year there’ll be a public performance so you can put your learning into practice and showcase your talents to your friends, family and the wider public.

At the end of the second year, you’ll receive your Arts Award qualification.
