  7. Sudafest 2022

Sudafest is a celebration of Sudanese culture. Everyone is welcome at Sudafest – Those with Sudanese heritage and those who want to learn more. We‘ll revel in the breadth and vibrancy of Sudanese culture by coming together with music, food, theatre, dance, workshops, a parade, and more! There’ll be something for all ages, with a play area for children as well as programmed activities.

The first Sudafest was 2021 and we are BACK with a bountiful programme this year, running across two days: Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July.

Saturday 16th July

On the Saturday you can expect:
a Sufi Performance
Haboba Story time
A performance from Sudanese Youth Theatre
Children’s Sudanese dance workshop
Creative workshops
a Sufi Procession

There will also be:
Tukul Kitchen – Sudanese Food prepared by volunteers
A Jebena – traditional Sudanese coffee ceremony!
Market stalls selling Sudanese crafts
A Community art exhibition
Outdoor childrens’ activities

On the evening of Saturday 16th, acta Community Theatres becomes home to the first ever Sudafest Comedy Night – with performances from Mamoun Elagab, Mohamed Terwis, and rapper YK. Tickets cost £8 and can be bought in advance.

Sunday 17th July

Sudafest Day two is all about celebrating Sudanese women. This completely free day has perfume making, a Bridal dance workshop (for women only), creative workshops for children, a performance about the life of Malkat al-Dar Muhammad (a Sudanese literary writer, educator and women’s rights activist), and some beautiful music from Nabra Oud duo.
