Garden Rescue Appeal

Soon after moving into the actacentre in 2002, we worked with local people to create a Community Garden on the land adjoining our site and at the corner of South Street Park. Over the years, the garden has been lovingly maintained and developed by a dedicated team of volunteer gardeners, with support from the acta staff team.

On a wild stormy night in early June, the Spice Girls performed at Ashton Gate Stadium and the acta garden fence was blown down! The fence brought down vast quantities of ivy that had been steadily climbing all over for decades, and smothered one end of the garden. As a result, we had to close one end of the garden to the public, whilst we gradually work to rescue the garden from underneath the ivy and metal fence.

We need to hire a wood chipper / shredder to recycle the green waste on site, and bring in some additional labour to remove the heavy metal fence from site. This will cost a total of £500, which is money that acta is struggling to find.

If you, your family or friends know or use South Street Park and the community garden, can you support the Garden Rescue Appeal, and get our wonderful garden open to the public once again? All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Below are just a few suggestions of how the money might be spent but please remember donations of any size are gratefully received!
