Young people aged 14 – 19 yrs living in and around Lawrence Weston in North Bristol will be taking part in a new weekly youth theatre project starting in September. Thanks to support from the J Paul Getty Jr charitable trust, we are delighted to announce that our youth theatre work will once again be returning to Lawrence Weston.
We are keen to hear from young people interested in taking part in this new project, which will use drama to help them prepare to leave school and search for employment, by building the confidence, skills and motivation to research and apply for jobs. We will work with young people to raise self-confidence and self-esteem, to build essential skills in communication, presentation, creativity, cooperation, to develop a sense of responsibility, and above all, to be motivated to believe in themselves and their abilities, to raise their self-value and aspirations.
This two year project comprises of weekly, evening group sessions offering a range of creative activities including drama, video, design and cooperative working on presentations. This is followed by a period of workshops and training including young people working towards a Youth Arts Award qualification and gaining accreditation for their work. Each year the group will work on creating an original annual production, which will be supported by acta’s professional technical team.
